Common heritage

Ireland-Peru / Peru-Ireland and UK-Peru / Peru-UK

Architecture and urban design. I have had an initial discussion with Univ. Ricardo Palma about a project re (e.g) Irish/British/'Anglo-Saxon' influences in Lima and Arequipa. Also the influence of Andean Textile design on the Modernist movement via the Museum fur Volkerkunde (now Ethnology), Berlin and the Dessau Bauhaus; the Saltaire (Bradford) - Arequipa link, etc . . . One point is whether we see a significant discontinuity between 'Europe in Peru' and 'Peru in Europe' or not.

Revised 230806 (23 August 2006)

Workshops for teachers / researchers specialising in Peruvian Studies and for tutors at the proposed local centres for Peruvian studies . . . or for all with an interest in Peru . . .

The emphasis in these workshops would be on setting up local study groups:

Part of old page below, revising 070806.

a British-Peruvian couple in the Shetlands whose children get no Peruvian history at school could be a (hypothetical?) target. Reinforcing Peruvian studies on existing, mainly university, courses would be another focus. We will use knowledge sharing software (see KSN below) to jointly compile accessible online learning resouces. In addition to the "virtual" (digital / electronic / online) resources we will be tempted to use real books - but only those which you can easily purchase for not too much money. The Peru Reader and the Footprint Guide to Peru (or other 'rough' guide - old copies would be OK) could be staple diet. No le gustan inglés? Bueno usaremos brañol or castellirish.

(Prelims: KSN etc) Basic Knowledge Sharing Network (KSN) software and Quechua / OIL.

Collecting together, ordering and archiving information (data) and then serving it up as an attractive feast needs a little help from the IT department. Let's consider sharing information about 'root' language: for example a basic English, Irish, Welsh, Gaelic, Cornish, Quechua, Aymara and Spanish (Castille? / Extremadura?). (Arguably amongst the root languages of UK Peruvians and Irish Peruvians - there is of course the probability of one or more from the (more than) 60 other Peruvian languages and 6000 UK . . )

(101) Peru, the basics. Introductory studies workshop as a foundation learning scheme preparatory for 202 and 203 below.

(102) Peruvian(ists)s in Ireland, the UK and Peru. Workshop to discuss ways of working in 'diasporic studies' and establishing a KSN for 'new Irish- or UK- Peruvians'. Discussion of learning schemes for improving English (as a second language); parallel citizenship courses; reinforcement of root culture; indigenous cultural networks.

(201) Peruvian and Latin American heritage in Ireland and the UK. Research workshop and seminar. Faciltating discussion of ways of compiling data (vitual collections) on the artefacts, physical and intellectual heritage of Peruvians and Latin Americans in the UK and Ireland.

(202) Regional and "micro-regional" studies.

Select region, department or province. More below. The area chosen could be a grouping of Departments or a zone within a Department. For example if you are interested in the area your grand-parents came from, why not choose that? If you have done research on one specific area of Peru, be our special guest for the week!

Please indicate the Department, region or other area you might be interested in studying:

No degree certificates at the end but you should be able to win any pub quiz on Peru!
